Let's Write Some Fearsome Fiction!
Does your child have great ideas but struggle to turn them into a well-structured story?
Perhaps they don't know how to start, run out of ideas halfway through, or find timed creative writing tasks particularly daunting.
Spooktastic Stories uses the fun of Halloween to take some of the fear out of creative writing!
Through imaginative activities, examples and guided teaching, Cassie helps children explore how to plan, develop and improve their own stories — building skills they can take back into their everyday English work.
It's particularly useful for children preparing for 11+ English and other school entrance assessments, but they don't need to be preparing for an exam to join in.
They just need to be ready to create something spooktacular!
What Happens Inside Spooktastic Stories?
Depending on the age group and session, children will work through a selection of Halloween-themed activities designed to develop their confidence and creative writing skills.
They'll explore:
how to generate and organise ideas before they start writing;
ways to create atmosphere and suspense;
Cassie's devilishly good descriptive “zoom-ins”;
how detail can make a story come alive;
examples of effective creative writing;
planning and scaffolding techniques they can use themselves;
and plenty of spooky inspiration along the way!
There'll also be some Halloween fun — because improving your English doesn't have to feel frightening.
